Ongoing home projects of 2016

Ongoing home projects of 2016

I am running late today, meaning this post is late. Nothing big happened, just life. We had a hectic weekend, lots of fun but not a lot of work. It is ok and great to have days like that. This post is pretty much about that as well, having life get in the way of well thought out plans. I have a lot of ongoing home projects of 2016. I always start out with the best of intentions, big dreams and plans. Then life happens and things have to take a break. Jumping back into things can be difficult.

In 2015 I completed a ton of projects, big and small. I also introduced you all to a few projects that were meant to be completed by now. Spoiler alert, they are not done! That is what I am talking about today. If at any time while reading this you have some great ideas for these projects or rooms, chime in and tell me those. I am always up to talk home decor, and new ideas are my favorite!

The biggest project that is in the middle of right now is our laundry room/mudroom. I have completely finished the mudroom portion of it. We call it the organization station. It functions perfectly! It does get messy and the shoes do seem to explode out of the bins. Other than that this space is working really well and is a lifesaver with school gear and homework.

The other part to this home improvement equation is the laundry room side of it. This room is off of the garage and hallway. So it has a multi functioning purpose. It needs to be used a lot, walked through a ton, and needs to be as clutter free as possible. The last time I shared about this was when we hung these upper cabinets. I have tiled in here, painted… and that is it! Unless you count the countless dirty clothes that have been washed in here. The plan of attack for this room is to put in open shelving for more storage, a counter top for folding, and some kind of custom system for hanging wet clothes that cannot be dried.

When I break it down like that, it seems like only a few things to get this room done. Yet, here it sits half done. My goal is to being tackling this and finishing what I started. I believe we are at almost a year of when we began this project. I have idea, that I can promise you. Eventually they get done.

Our hallway is so pretty! I adore it, the wainscoting I made is the thing that makes this stand out. The thing I think most do not notice when looking at pictures of my home is that it is not done. I do not have the floorboards back on. I also do not have a top ledge to the wainscoting. I have never decided on a finished look. Do I want to keep it simple, add a bulky top or maybe a few details? This is so close to being done I can taste it. Once it gets completed I will finally share the really easy way we made this wainscoting for our walls.

Last year I redid Nora’s bedroom, she wanted a bigger girl feel. It did seem done, but she has since explained she wanted a few new featured. One being a window seat and gallery wall. Yes, my almost 8 year old expressed she wants a gallery wall in her bedroom. We are a legit home decorating family. I created a window seat, and am really excited to share how it turned out. I gave a peek of it on Instagram, but it is not done yet. I have not done the gallery wall either. So be looking out for that girl bedroom reveal part 2 soon.

This is the master bedroom. Well what it looked like about 1 year ago. I have done some new things in this room. We redid our bathroom, painted the fireplace, and added some shelving. However, this room is yet to be fully painted, the art work is what we had for this bedroom when we first got married almost 9 years ago. Nothing is particularly wrong with this room, but not much is “right” with this bedroom either. I have to make this bedroom work as an oasis and place ot rest for Dale and I, along with it working as a office for me. The double function is making this a tricky room to revamp. It has been a process, since we purchased the home and it is still a work in progress.

As you can see from what we have already added into this room, I am going for a light and bright feel to the space. I am thinking light blue walls, with white trim and maybe some kind of wood beams. This bedroom has a beautiful vaulted ceiling and I would love to showcase that. Possibly making a new headboard is on my dream to-do list as well.

As you can see, life happens and my well thought out plans cannot be completed. I have been working on these rooms and projects for a year or more, and my goal is to get them done in 2016! I also have some new ideas and projects ready to get started. If I do not have 10 things going on at once I feel bored. It may sound weird, but I really, REALLY, enjoy working on my home. So having this long to-do list is my happy place. Not so much my happy place is the unfinished projects. That irks me, and I need to get better at that. These ongoing home projects of 2016 will hopefully become finishes home projects of 2016!

How are you with finishing projects? Any home projects you have been working on for a long time? Any ideas for these rooms?

  1. There is always lots to do it seems. You have a beautiful home and I am looking forward to all your projects this year!

  2. Gorgeous work so far! I can’t wait to see how all of it comes together in the end.

A renters, we are super limited to what we can do as far as home projects are concerned, but I’m planning on doing what I can to make a spare room a cozy + organized craft studio. And I have to get super creative with this room because it’s too tiny for a craft addict like myself. Actually it’s been in the works for a while now, but life just gets in the way sometimes.

Any ideas for budget-friendly renter ideas? I’ll take all the inspiration I can get!

    • Thank you! Hmmm, I think that being a renter does limit some things you can do, but adding book cases is a great and simple way to maximize storage. You can purchase some low cost ones and even paint them if they are not the look you are hoping for. Or you can make your own to match the size you are looking for.

  3. I’m honestly so glad I’m not the only one who has a to do list 3 miles long! I can’t wait to see what you accomplish this year <3

  4. I am much like you – always 10 projects going at once. We have yet to completely finish one room as we jump from one project to the next. Hopefully this year we will actually finish one. but I am not banking on it, lol. Love everything you have done and can’t wait to see the finished projects. Cathy

    • Thank you so much Cathy! I get antsy when redoing a room and start thinking about how it will turn out. Then I get excited thinking about another room and what I would do to it. Which is how I end up with all of these unfinished projects.

  5. You have a lot of projects going on and they are so great! Your house is beautiful!

  6. I always have some kind of project going on. Right now, I need to buckle down and actually do them! 🙂

  7. Things look wonderful, Emily, and the upcoming projects are so exciting!

  8. I totally understand the feeling of having unfinished projects! I chuckled to myself when you said you haven’t topped your wainscotting, because that’s still an unfinished project in my house – 2 years after installing it! Your home looks beautiful and I can’t wait to see all your projects this year!

  9. I’m always jumping from one thing to another, it drives my husband really crazy, lol! And your hallway is just amazing!
