Question of the day- Thursday

Question of the day time, how is everyone’s morning going? That is not the question for today, just a freebie. Today we have a question send by email…..
Jessica wants to know-
I am finally going to take the plunge and start to create the art’s and crafts I have pinned in my well organized Pinterest boards. What is a good craft starter kit? I know with each project there will need to be some purchases made. But, what do you always seem to have on hand for those spur of the moment decorating instances you talk about?

I love this question. One of the things I adore about Pinterest is the ideas you get. Normal, none decorating obsessed people can see what is out there and possible to do. But, I am sure it can feel overwhelming when looking at starting a stock pile of craft things.
  • A hot glue gun
  • Lot’s of appropriately sized hot glue gun sticks
  • Good set of scissors
  • A book of scrap booking paper. At most crafts stores there is usually a bulk-type book you can purchase with lots of colors and patterns.
  • Twine or rope
  • Regular glue sticks
  • A starter kit of paints, with standard colors
  • Markers, colored pencils. Not to be touched and played with by kid’s!

This list can get you started. The thing to remember is, I did not have a “craft starter kit” when I began creating things for my home. I simply had left over supplies from crafts that I made. Eventually I got a stock pile going. So don’t feel like you need to jump in with a bunch of things at your ready. As you start seeing what crafts you gravitate towards, supplies you use. Then you can begin buying when things are on sale, or if there is a coupon for them. You will find your way and will be crafting on the spur of the moment too! Good luck!

What would you add to this starter list? What is something you always, ALWAYS seem to use when creating things? If you have a question email me at with your question, name and link to your blog if you have it.

  1. I love to stock up on canvas and foam paint brushes when they go on sale at craft stores!

  2. I love this list. I need to get a craft stash started too!! I think another good thing to have on hand is a whole punch… kinda random but you would be surprised how often you need one!

  3. I saw that someone commented "Mod Podge"! I have to second that one. This is a really great list! The thing with a craft starter kit is that it's never a "starter kit" for long. lol…all of us craft addicts know how that goes! 🙂

  4. There's nothing you can't do with a good glue gun. I don't know what I ever did without one!

  5. Like Amanda says, foam brushes and canvases on sale.

Paint brushes (I get spares at the dollar store) and I third the mod podge. 🙂

  6. Oh… I am hoping to get the crafting re decorating bug very very soon. I am putting an offer in for a house and if I get it… Pinterest will be my best friend! Great list you put together here.

  7. Lots of good ideas! A roll of sturdy gauge metal wire, primer, an assortment of small bottles of craft paint in colors you love.

  8. The glue gun it my favorite craft tool!!! I just got my mom one before christmas, she glued all the bows to the gifts! Hahaha
