I did it. I legitimately lost my mind in Joanne’s Fabrics. And my kids and Husband Dale went to crazy town with me. Let me bring it back a little. As you know (maybe) we are re decorating my Daughter Nora’s room. She wants some curtains hanging from her ceiling to embody a four poster bed. I have in my mind what I will do so I needed the fabric to go with it. Armed with my professional measurements. Written on a old receipt, hey don’t judge. We headed to Joanne’s fabrics, coupons in hand. That fabric can get pricey, don’t buy without a coupon.
We got there and set out. I know I want a pink curtain on each corner that will stay open at all times, and a sheer white curtain that will open on the sides. As far as fabric, detail, and texture no clue. As you can see I am a dot my i’s and cross my t’s kind of girl, obviously. Nora wanted pink! pink! and pink! And butterflies. right away we found this great fabric, a sheer white fabric with dragonflies on it. Score! Then we found in the clearance a cute plain pink fabric. 15 minutes in, lets go, success. We get up to the cutting area and realize by doing calculations I need 12 yards of each. Our ceilings are 8ft high and I need them from floor to ceiling. So the clearance was out, it had about half the yards needed on it. And the sheer fabric added up to $360, with my 50% off coupon. WHAT?!!!! Look I love my daughter, she is the best. Truthfully my favorite Nora on the planet, no lie. But we may get 5 years out of this motif in her room before she graduates out of pink, maybe. So that is a bit out of my realm of going to happen. If I had budgeted, which I did not. I would have spent maybe around $100. That was my unofficial goal here.
So back to the drawing board, and by drawing board I mean rows, and rows of fabric. We found another set, except this was a sheer pink with butterflies, and a white subtle circle pattern fabric. Again back to the cutting area. We knew we would have to order more from their warehouse since almost none had 12 yards in store. Well the pink was a discontinued item. No more. So back to the rows.
By now we have been in the store around 45-50 minutes. And my very supportive and understanding husband may or may not have threatened to leave me stranded, twice. My kids have each had tantrums, potty breaks, all played musical carts. You know the game, one in the seat, one in the merchandise holding area of the cart, and one hanging on the side. And they switch spots. That is musical carts. Coats have been taken off, put back on, fabric has been pulled from shelf’s. Allegedly. Crying, whining, begging, shouting, “He is looking at me!” “She is touching me.” “The music is loud” have been said. Nora has picked out certain fabric, fallen in love and been disappointed when I see that it is close or over the expensive dragonfly fabric that was nixed. She has expensive taste. I am wondering if it is just me or are the fabrics literally closing in on me. But push through we did, we were there and determined to pick it out since we knew the fabric would have to be ordered. So we found two more combinations of pink and sheer that could work, just in case one is unavailable.
And we finally did it, one hour and fifteen minutes later we settled on a light pinks plain cotton fabric, and a white fabric with circles and smaller circles cut out for the sheer- like curtain. We ordered from the warehouse and it should be here in a few weeks time. With our orders done and paid for we were out the door and onto dinner at a restaurant for dinner, were my husband very sweetly asked for a gin and tonic the second the waitress made herself known. I tell myself it is the kids that brought him to drink that evening. Not me, never. I blame the fabric and kids.
