I will be sharing all about these DIY wood pallet pumpkins, with the full tutorial. I love the rustic appeal to these with just a few supplies. If you are a craft supply hoarder like me this project will cost you close to nothing.!
DIY wood pallet pumpkins! I know Halloween is almost here, but pumpkins can just be for general fall decor and we have a whole other month of fall goodness. Truth be told, this is not an original idea. Pallet pumpkins are everywhere on the interwebs. But, I wanted them. How can I not? They are fun, whimsical, rustic, bright, and so pumpkin-ish. Yes, that is how I am describing them, and I am sticking to it.
This is what I started with, a pile of wood pallets. I knew I wanted to do two. One taller and thinner one, and one standard short and plump one.
I drew a pumpkin on the pallets, free hand and easy. Pumpkins are natural, so perfectly round was not a priority.
Setting one pallet up and securing it. Then using a jig saw and sawing over drawn out line.
I also drew and cut out a pumpkin stem.
Here is how the stem will sit on the back of the pumpkin.
Using a thinner cut piece of wood and placing it along the back of the pumpkin. This is what will connect the individual pallets. You can also use wood glue for this part instead.
Air nail time! By nailing this long board to the back it secured it enough to be sturdy.
Once they were connected it is time to paint. I used a primer first because the wood pallets were different colored. Then using a bright orange spray paint, I painted the pumpkin. I left the stem as the natural wood color.
Once done I found this green wire and decided to add some fun and color to the pumpkins. Then to add the whimsical and fun to the pumpkins I twisted it around my finger to make it be a spiral. As pumpkins stems are naturally, of course!
It now has a whimsical appearance of the leaves on a pumpkin.
The DIY wood pallet pumpkins are done!
I think they add just a little something to the entry. My fall front porch is full or traditional decor items and a ton of DIY project. Which means these DIY wood pallet pumpkins fit right in!
I went with a more subtle feel to my fall home tour inside, keeping the colors light and the emphasis on nature. Outside I can go bold with colors since this time of year the outside is where the color is always at. The trees are just starting to turn bright red and golden. Such a beautiful time of year!
Seriously, how perfect are wood pallets? They are the best project supply, and because I have a neighbor who gets them all the time for his business I have my pick of pallets at the ready.
I think these DIY wood pallet pumpkins are something that should be a mainstay for every persons home in fall. It is one of the easiest projects I have done, I can create them as big or small as I want, also they are sturdy and will last for years to come. So now my wood pallet pumpkins are going to be out on the interwebs, just one more of many. But, I mean with how simple and cute they are, of course they are so popular!
Have you created any wood pallet fall decor?
